The STREAMS Field Processor (FP) provides local processing and control of field devices within the distributed STREAMS architecture model. The FP uses device drivers to interface to ITS equipment (e.g. Variable Message Signs and Intersection Controllers) via Serial ports enabling secure communications over an IP-based field network.
