The STREAMS
Architecture provides the platform for the integration of many road-based
ITS applications – traffic signal management, motorway management,
incident management, passenger information, driver information.
The STREAMS Architecture is modular, open, scalable,
flexible and secure. The modularity enables individual systems to
be built from components.
Systems can start with a single application. Additional functionality
can then be added easily as required.
Systems can scale from small towns to large regions.
The modules can be upgraded without change to other components.
Alternative algorithms can be ‘plugged in’ as required
and switched at run time.
New technology standards can be incorporated as they evolve, with
minimal effort.
The system can be easily interfaced to existing systems.
Application Software
The application software is subdivided into services. These are
software components based on the natural object class groupings
in the system and they encapsulate all the associated data and
